As part of celebrations taking place all over the world, we welcomed the Year of the Fire Rooster in style over the weekend. Joined by families from Sunnybank and around Brisbane, we celebrated with a traditional lion dance performance, fun kids’ activities and a special menu from The Corner Cafe.

Tom Lo’s popular Lion Dance Team kicked off the celebrations with an exciting performance – after which one of the lions wandered off to our new townhomes (more on that is coming soon)!

The colours, movement, beating drums and clashing cymbals were so exciting – it’s easy to see why this tradition is such an important part of the celebrations. The dance is believed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits, and it dates all the way back to the Han Dynasty. So if you were at the event, we hope you carry the luck with you all year!

Afterwards, it was time to get creative with kite making and interactive puppet shows for kids. This time of year is so unique and a great chance to get to know the community. It was exciting to see so many people from our neighbourhood come together and get to know one another. Peter Russo MP for Sunnybank even came along and showed off his drum-playing skills.

What does the Year of the Fire Rooster hold?

Master Tom Lo believes the Year of the Fire Rooster will be good in terms of finance. He says to expect challenges requiring wit and practical thinking, and that dragons, tigers or rats should have a particularly good year. When it comes to money, relationships or business, you should make your intentions clear.

Those born in the rooster zodiac are hard working, strong willed and outgoing. Famous roosters include Elton John, Beyoncé and Roger Federer (who is already having a great year after winning the Australian Open just one day after New Year’s Day).

The excitement is still buzzing after the fun of the weekend and we’d like to thank everyone who came along and made the celebrations so much fun. Best wishes for the Year of the Fire Rooster and we will see you next year to welcome the Year of the Dog!
